Just six months after they started dating, Robert Pattinson and FKA twigs are engaged!

The Internet was sent into overdrive by Wednesday’s confirmation of the happy news. But who is the 27-year-old British singer? It’s time to brush up on some facts about the Twilight actor’s bride-to-be.

1. She was born Tahliah Barnett.
Nicknamed “twigs” because of the way her joints crack, the singer added the acronym FKA (“Formerly Known As”) to her moniker because American pop duo The Twigs already snagged the name. “The only way I won’t have to change my name is if they say that I don’t have to,” she told Dazed about the snafu. “I’m not angry, but I do feel sad about it. I might call myself FKA tree trunk. Or FKA baby branches. Or IRL twigs.”

2. She’s half Jamaican and half Spanish.
As the only mixed-race girl in her school, “people said horrible things about something I had no control of, which was tough,” but she’s never had a problem with the way she looks. “Half of my life I’ve had people staring at me because they think I’m funny-looking and ugly,” she told Dazed. “The other half of my life I’ve had people staring at me because they think I’m fascinating. Everything neutralizes.”

3. She grew up singing and dancing.
Growing up in the small town of Tewkesbury, FKA twigs “started getting interested in dancing and music because there isn’t very much else to do [there],” she told Pitchfork. “There was a youth club there with a low-key studio, and they’d have guys rapping, and I’d put the chorus down on the track.” The singer – whose mother was a salsa dancer – moved to London to attend dance school at 17 but dropped out after several weeks to pursue her music career.

4. She can be spotted dancing in a bunch of music videos.
Dancing in videos for pop stars like Kylie Minogue, Taio Cruz and Ed Sheeran, she is featured heavily in Jessie J’s “”Do, which has racked up nearly 80 million views on YouTube.

5. Like Pattinson, don’t expect her to dish on her personal life any time soon.
Though her new album explores various aspects of her beliefs (from gender politics to sex), she doesn’t like putting the spotlight on herself. “The idea’s the idea,” she told Billboard. “It’s about what you do, and not who you are.” Giving a peek into her romantic past, however, she revealed to The Guardian that she’s “had two or three serious relationships [but] I haven’t had that ultimate relationship where something clicks and I’m like, ‘I get it now!’ I’m still learning.”
