Hang onto your broomsticks and raise a glass of butterbeer, Harry Potter fans: A thrill ride through Gringotts wizarding bank is coming almost as fast as you can say wingardium leviosa.
On Tuesday, Universal Orlando announced details of the new attraction, Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts, which will anchor a newly expanded Diagon Alley area of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
While no opening date for the public has been announced – though VIP invitations have gone out for June 17-20 – it is expected to be sometime this summer.
Devotees of J.K. Rowling’s wildly popular books – and the eight films based on them – know that the sequence from 2007’s Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, in which heroes Harry, Ron and Hermione break into heavily guarded Gringotts, is one of the series’ most action-packed.
The new attraction will feature a 60-ft. fire-breathing Ukrainian Ironbelly dragon, the banks’ wary goblin tellers and the two most frightening villains in the Potterverse: Voldemort and Bellatrix Lestrange.
In other Potter news, Warner Bros. announced the release date for Rowling’s first installment in the planned spinoff trilogy Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
The project was first announced in September, with Rowling, 48, slated to write the films based on her 2001 companion book of the same name, which features the adventures of magical zoologist Newt Scamander (but not Harry and friends).
