Cesar Millan stopped by the PEOPLEPets.com offices yesterday, and while the
Dog Whisperer star was bubbly as could be, he came with a heavy heart, still grieving the loss of his
beloved pit bull Daddy. "I know that God needed him so he could help somebody over there," Millan told us of his pup, who
died last Friday. "He really embodied what it is to be there for somebody."
Fighting tears, Millan told PEOPLEPets.com that he and his family chose to honor Daddy with happy memories. "Before my grandfather died, he said, 'Please don't cry when I've passed, because I'm going to be in a better place'," Millan shared. "You can cry, or be joyful about that new experience."
Millan revealed that he plans to build a temple celebrating Daddy on the highest point of his California ranch. He also lit 500 white candles in the pup's honor — a Mexican tradition — and kept the 16-year-old's ashes.
Though Daddy's death certainly affected Millan's 10 remaining pups, he said that he wants to do "what's best for the pack," and move on. "Animals grieve," he shared, "but the pack has to stay balanced. That's what Daddy would want."
As for adding to his four-legged family, Millan said that there "will never be another Daddy." But he does plan to rescue another dog — when the time is right. "We are going to bring another member to the pack," he says, "a dog that needs our help, a dog that would be euthanized because nobody understands him."

I watch the show all the time, and have dreaded the day I learned that Daddy left us. My heart is breaking for Cesar and his family, I can't stop crying so I can imagine how they feel. He was the best representative of the breed Cesar could have had. He was so dear, it's a great loss.
Cesar, I know how heart wrenching it is to loose a soul mate - if you could reach up to the sky at night and touch a star for each time Daddy made you smile, your hands would be filled with the entire evening sky.
He was loved by many, and will be missed.

I will never forget Daddy. He changed my life and the life of my beloved pit bull, Honey. Honey has passed away now after ~12 years of loving her. (We don't know her exact age because she was a rescue.) Cesar is so right. Daddy helped so many people and animals. After I started watching the Dog Whisperer, I stopped treating Honey like a child and started treating her as a dog. I walked her SO much more (I didn't realize how important that was - especially for pit bulls). We had long walks together that I'll never forget. She LOVED that. I convinced myself Honey was "naturally" agressive to other dogs but it was mostly me. Once I calmed down and became more assertive, Honey and I could go to more places and do more things. Daddy was so balanced, fun-loving and so helped. Honestly, I didn't know a pit bull could be so cool and relaxed. Daddy improved Honey's life and mine too. I really loved watching him. Daddy made my week when he came on the show. Honey used to bark at him on TV. It was funny. Daddy was a very special dog. I will always miss him.

Your plans for Daddy are awesome Cesar! My sincere condolences to you and your family. I'm so happy we rescued our dog, Lily, last summer, thanks to you Cesar. She is such a joy and gives the most unconditional love you could ever want. You see? Daddy does live on in so many of us!

What a wonderful tribute to Daddy. My condolences to Cesar. You are right in that Daddy wouldn't want you to grieve but rejoice in his long life. When my little yorkie passed away almost seven years ago, I thought I would never get over the grieving and would never get another dog. Ginger had seen me through divorce, death, etc. However, I now have a wonderful jack russell Rosie that my son found as a stray. No dog can ever replace Ginger but I love Rosie as much as a child and she is every bit as wonderful and irreplaceable as Ginger but in a different way.

Dogs are so incredibly endearing. The empty space of a long time dog is a very much so hard. Many are grieving the loss of Daddy.
