After five months of searching, Mario Lopez has found the love of his life: a French bulldog named Julio Cesar Chavez Lopez. The
Extra host plans to introduce the white pup (who has extra-tall ears!) on his celebrity news show today.
"I am so excited to have [him] in my life," Lopez told PEOPLEPets.com in a statement. "After months on the hunt, I've realized that a French bulldog is the right dog for me."
Lopez started his search in mid-September, calling on celebrities, pet experts, animal shelters and PEOPLEPets.com for advice.
At the time, the 36-year-old actor
told PEOPLEPets.com that he was looking for companionship in a pet. "Somebody I can come home to. Somebody I can go running with and travel with me," he said. "A buddy." Though the French bulldog isn't exactly known for its athletic prowess — the
American Kennel Club says "their main role is that of lap warmer" — the small pooch will definitely be able to navigate the friendly skies (and roads) with ease.
Interestingly, it was none other than Oprah Winfrey who suggested Lopez select a French bulldog. "She called it," Lopez joked.
Tune into tonight's Extra at 7 p.m. ET (check local listings) to catch a glimpse of Julio. wo what do you suggest happens to all the dogs that are in puppy mills? leave them there to waste away? that makes a lot of sense...no matter which way you get your dog as long as you love it and take care of it doesn't matter. obviously adoption is great but i don't think you know the facts as well as you think you do about puppy mills and pet stores. those animals most often do not even make it to the shelters if they are not taken home with someone. if we all love animals then just let it be...

It's true - Everyone has a CHOICE in the matter of buying vs. adoption. Those that understand the facts CHOOSE adoption.
If this celebrity adopted this French Bulldog via a Rescue Group, then he did the right thing. Let's see if he ever publicly shares how he ended up with this puppy.
Re: nailing people on crosses...first of all, it's offensive you even use this phrase in this context. secondly, nobody is nailing anyone anywhere. it's about sharing the facts. http://www.idausa.org/facts/pmfacts.html

To Miranda:
I sympathize with animals in shelters, however, I will purchase my pets as I see fit, where I see fit and I will not be made to feel guilty that I did not go to a shelter to purchase my pets, especially from someone who apparently judges another without knowing the circumstance. I took responsibility for the pets that I purchased -- they did not reproduce or end up in a shelter. How dare you make an accusation like that!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You have a great deal to learn, young lady. As far as I know, when I awoke this morning I was in America, therefore, I am blessed with certain inalienable rights which also includes where I purchase my pets. I will not take responsibility for every pet without a home and I don't think God would condemn me either. Grow up, Miranda.

FYI. It doesn't say he purchased the dog. I think its likely that he is purchased, just pointing out that you're all reading that into the article. Also, I'm all for adopting dogs. I have 2 adoptees. But why do we have to have this conversation every time? I think its great that people want to educate others on the benefits of adopting but do we really need to nail people to a cross for purchasing a puppy from a breeder or even saving a puppy that would've been discarded from a store?
I can say I will never buy a dog from a store or a mill, but I can't say what I would do when faced with a helpless animal who didn't ask to be brought into this world. People are allowed to be happy with their animals and treat them like royalty. Adopted dogs are awesome and its a joy to watch them learn to trust and love you but I also have a purchased puppy who mixed well with our adoptees and who is equally as great.
Bottom line- encourage shelter adoption and stop attacking people who make sacrifices to take care of and love their pets of any kind.

I got my puppy from a puppy mill.... I didn't know that's what it was when I went, but once I got there it was clear that's what it was. It broke my heart and I wanted to take all those puppies home with me. I found my dog Sophie there. She had sores on her neck from flea bites and had several ticks on her and I bought her then and there. Some of you may think that I supported the mill but I KNOW I saved Sophie's life. She was sick and under fed and today she is a hyper, happy, and healthy little 6 month old. I don't regret for one second that I have her. Let me be clear, I DO NOT support puppy mills. Never will, especially after what I saw. However, it is my belief that these animals are in need of being adopted as much as any other pet. I talked to my vet about this place and he has since turned these people in. This is my first time to post and I have to say the way some of you talk to each other just blows me away. Some of you are soooo self righteous thinking you love animals more than someone else simply because of the way you chose to get a pet. Obviously WE are all animal lovers or why would we even be on this site. The comment made by the person that compared this to adopting a child... bravo. I thought that was an excellent argument.

Wait, we don't know where he got his Frenchie so we can't berate him for getting it at a puppy mill, can we? He may have gotten it at a rescue, or from a reputable breeder.
To the lady who wanted a large dog, and doesn't want to adopt.... go to a reputable breeder. Pet shops, and puppy shops, are the wrong way to get a pup.... rescues, shelters and reputable breeders are the humane way to go.
