Adopt Us! Tucker and Skye are Delightful Disabled Pups
For every pet living with a happy family, there is an animal in a shelter waiting to find a loving home. Today we'd like you to meet Tucker and Skye, two special dogs who have faced adversity, but are waiting for forever families at Pets with Disabilities in Prince Frederick, Md.
Mixed-breed pooch Tucker is "full of energy and loves to hang with people," says Pets with Disabilities founder Joyce Darrell. The 4-year-old, who is completely blind, came to the facility as a stray, "which is an amazing testament to his spirit," Darrell says. Though he was underweight and suffering from a painful, bulging eye, Tucker persevered through surgery and now is eager to “see” anyone who comes to visit him.
Georgia Firefighter Saves Cat's Life — Twice!
When Coweta County, Ga., firefighter Jim Cadenhead got a call on June 29, he didn't realize it would end up changing his life. Animal Control was dealing with a cat stuck in a 40-foot well, and Cadenhead had been deployed to help.
"We took the roof off of the well house and hooked up a little system to go down into the well," the La Grange, Ga., resident tells PEOPLEPets.com. "Then I grabbed the cat. It was very simple."
What wasn't so simple was figuring out the cat’s future.
Country Singer Eric Church Saves Two Homeless Cats
For most people, the Fourth of July is about barbecues and fireworks. But for singer Eric Church, this year's holiday weekend was devoted to keeping two homeless cats alive.
According to his blog, Church found the mother-son pair wandering around a lakeside subdivision in North Carolina while he was out for a run that weekend. Realizing they were "literally starving to death," he took them in, naming them after fellow country crooners June Carter and Jesse Colter.
But what should have been a happy ending had a hitch.
Meet Noble, Milk-Bone's Newest TV Star
Move over, Baxter: there's another four-legged star in town! Lab mix Noble, Milk-Bone's newest spokesdog, is taking television (and Facebook!) by storm, and with good reason. "He's kind of a looker," trainer Chris Casatelli jokes to PEOPLEPets.com. "He's really fearless and really bold, but also affectionate, which is not something you always see."
One-year-old Noble was born at Canine Assistants in Milton, Ga., and trained from puppyhood to become a service dog. His 12-month journey from fluffball to canine companion was documented on Facebook, where his 31,273 fans watched him learn and grow.
Comedienne Lisa Lampanelli Adopts Her First Dog
Comedienne Lisa Lampanelli has a pretty thick skin, as evidenced by the racy jokes she rattles off regularly on Comedy Central. But recently, she's felt herself softening up a bit, thanks to a near-weightless ball of fluff: her rescue Yorkie, Parker (named for Sarah Jessica, of course!).
"He's not a typical puppy — he doesn't freak out, run or chew," Lampanelli, a first-time pet owner, tells PEOPLEPets.com. "We tire him out by playing with him, running with him. He sleeps a lot, and likes to be on your lap a lot, too."
Adopt Me! Cat Forrest Is a 'Distinguished Older Gentleman'
For every pet living with a happy family, there is an animal in a shelter waiting to find a loving home. Today we'd like you to meet Forrest, a senior cat looking to retire near Dallas.
Forrest came to the SPCA of Texas in late April, when his owners' landlord gave him the boot. The 16-year-old domestic shorthair mix has a "laid-back and friendly attitude," says Maura Davies, the SPCA’s senior director of communications. "He is quite the distinguished older gentleman."
Oceanographer Celine Cousteau Finds Inspiration on Land -- in Her Cat
Céline Cousteau – like her legendary grandfather, Jacques Cousteau, the late French underwater explorer and filmmaker – has traveled the world and come face-to-fin with many exotic creatures. But back on land it’s her adopted cat, Domino, who helps her keep it all in perspective.
Cousteau shares her Brooklyn, N.Y., home with Domino, a "big black kitty” that she got at a pound in New Mexico and whom she says has a dog-like personality. "When I come home,” Cousteau told PEOPLEPets.com at a reception in New York on Aug. 18 to benefit Ocean Inspiration, "he comes to the door."
