For every pet living with a happy family, there is an animal in a shelter waiting to find a loving home. So today, we'd like you to meet Honeybear, a 4-year-old mixed breed in Indiana who's been through a lot, but is working hard to impress potential new parents.
Honeybear came to the
Southside Animal Shelter of Indianapolis in May, after her owner passed away. Joined by her four-legged friend Tippy, who was later adopted, she was diagnosed with heartworm, and immediately treated. Now she's healthy and thriving, although she's lonely without Tippy around. "She likes to jump into the baby pool on a hot summer day, and will roll over for a belly rub any day of the week," says shelter board vice president Robin Kennedy. "She is an easy-going dog looking for a guardian angel." With her heartworm cleared up, Honeybear is completely healthy, and kennel-trained, as well.
Southside Animal Shelter strives to rescue healthy dogs and cats at risk of euthanasia, then works to nurture and restore them to happy healthy lives in loving homes. Southside is a limited admission shelter, allowing animals to live on premises for as long as necessary without the threat of euthanasia. Last year, shelter workers rescued more than 1,200 animals from their local kill shelter, and adopted out nearly 1,500 loving pets.
As with any shelter, Southside is always in need of donations, so visit their
Web site to learn how you can help!
