They talked Elvis,
danced to "Poker Face" and dressed up as showgirls. But it was all for a cause: On Saturday, Twittering anipals raised $1,878 for animal rescue efforts in Haiti through their "Viva Wag Vegas" pawpawty.
A monthly event that raises money for worthy animal causes,
pawpawties are online celebrations where festive and fun animals (with some help from their humans)
congregate in cyberspace, answering trivia questions, sharing music and imbibing in pet-friendly cocktails. Founded by Lynn Haigh and her
pup Dougal of Stamford, England, the experience is always a financial success thanks to generous animal lovers.
"We had the usual target of $1,000," Haigh tells PEOPLEPets.com. "But we busted that pretty fast! We raised it for the
WSPA [and IFAW], who have a team on the ground in Haiti already."
Haigh has a widget up on
her blog so that pets (and people!) who missed the party can continue to donate in U.S. and U.K. currencies. "Every penny counts to da anipals," reminds Dougal, via Twitter. "We sure did some great help fur Haiti."
