When Shirley Youngs (
catlover55) brought home a cat sculpture by local New Zealand artist Bodhi Vincent, she thought she was just expressing her ardent love for cats. She didn't expect her cats to turn on the helpless work of art! They hissed and attacked, and Youngs photographed Clive, her 2-year-old Persian mix, letting the sculpture know who's boss.
"My friends have often teased me that I must have been an Egyptian in a past life because I worship cats," Youngs tells PEOPLEPets.com. The present owner of four felines, Youngs named the sculpture Horus after the Egyptian sky god, and suspects that Horus has a bit of "true cat essence" as well as the "bird spirit" of the god Horus.
Youngs describes Clive as an independent cat who likes his alone time, and she often finds him in the "kitty-free lounge" of her home. Somewhat clumsy, Clive doesn't hunt much, preferring to watch his sister Fiona pouncing about in the yard. He is a mix of curious and fearful, and hides under the bed when the doorbell rings.
Clive is now comfortable around the sculpture, as is his brother Spencer. Youngs' two female cats pay no mind to Horus – maybe it's because the macho boys took care of business!
