Pabst Is Named World's Ugliest Dog

Things got really ugly in Petaluma, Calif., on Friday night when a slew of less-than-picture-perfect canines came out to compete for the title of World's Ugliest Dog. A boxer-mix named Pabst nabbed the title, stealing it from the predicted winner, a Chinese crested pooch named Rascal. The 4-year-old pup -- who was an audience favorite -- is the first non-Chinese crested to win in more than seven years.

“I don’t think he’s that ugly!” said Pabst's owner, Miles Egstad, who hails from Citrus Heights, Calif., adding that the dog's underbite is his most compelling feature.

Egstad, 25, said the 60-lb. pooch, whom he rescued three years ago from a shelter, is named after Pabst Blue Ribbon beer because he had a "bitter beer face." He decided to enter his pup in the 21st annual contest after friends suggested it.

Pabst's win translates to big prizes for him and his owner: Egstad receives $1,600 from the Sonoma-Marin Fair for sweeping all three rounds ($100 for mutt class, $500 for runoff with the pedigree class winner, and $1,000 for World’s Ugliest Dog). And the contest's sponsor, House Of Dog, gave away $1,000 in prize money, a table of "bling" including collars, leashes and bowls, plus a year-long modeling contract that Pabst signed with his paw.
