Rosario Dawson may be buff, but she says in a new interview that she doesn’t obsess about her diet.
“I don’t understand people starving themselves to look good,” Dawson tells the British edition of Elle in its June issue. “You might look cute in those jeans for one year of your life, but you might take 10 years off your life if you’re not careful. It’s not healthy.”
Adds the Grindhouse star, 27: “When I see a woman who is all gaunt and emaciated, I don’t think she’s beautiful. She reminds me of a Chihuahua that’s freezing and shaking all the time. I’ve never been a size zero in my life. I say if you want to eat the cookie – eat the cookie!”
Dawson, who recently told PEOPLE she’s been enjoying the single life since splitting with Sex and the City actor Jason Lewis, says women shouldn’t compare themselves to famous people: “Most of the time [celebrities] don’t look like that. My pictures get air-brushed. We’re in the business of illusion.”
Last year, Dawson celebrated her May 9 birthday with a special acoustic set from Guns N’ Roses at New York City hot spot The Plumm. How is she planning to top that when she turns 28 this year? “[A friend] said, ‘Stevie Wonder’s birthday is the day after yours. He’s having this private birthday party in the Bahamas and I can set up your going out there,’ ” Dawson says. “I was like, ‘Yeah!’ ”
