The fans may be prepared to line up this summer to see Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull – but when it comes to what actor rates No.1 in terms of curiosity value, the crown goes to the late Heath Ledger, for his turn as the Joker in the upcoming The Dark Knight.
Not that Indy’s alter ego, Harrison Ford, should sweat about his potential box-office. Besides starring in the movie that most moviegoers want to see this summer, the veteran actor, 65, also ranks as all-time favorite action-movie star, according to a survey conducted over the past two weeks by the Fandango movie tickets and theaters Web site.
In terms of the most-anticipated release come the hot-weather months, the long-awaited Indiana Jones is top of the list among 82 percent of those surveyed, followed by the Batman continuation with Ledger and Christian Bale as the masked man, The Dark Knight, with 42 percent of the respondents set to fork over their ticket money.
Rounding out the Top 5 are Iron Man, based on the Marvel Comic and starring Robert Downey, Jr., Terence Howard and Gwyenth Paltrow; The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian; and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.
In 6th to 10th place are (in order): Steve Carell as silly spy Maxwell Smart in Get Smart, The Incredible Hulk, the untitled X-Files sequel, Speed Racer and, lastly, Sex and the City, the movie version of the 1998-2004 HBO favorite.
Besides Ledger, in terms of individual performers, fans also eagerly anticipate (in order) Carell in Get Smart, Downey in Iron Man, Edward Norton as Bruce Banner in Incredible Hulk and Anne Hathaway as sultry Agent 99 in Get Smart.
