Two police chiefs are under investigation for allegedly planning a break-in at the home of the woman carrying the twins of Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick. According to news outlets in Ohio, the state’s Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation is looking into whether officers from the neighboring towns of Martins Ferry and Bridgeport masterminded a burglary in order to gather information that they could then sell to a tabloid newspaper.
“I’m 100 percent innocent in this and my department is as well,” Martins Ferry Police Chief Barry Carpenter told TV station WTOV in Steubenville. Both Carpenter and the other officer reportedly under investigation, Bridgeport Police Chief Chad Dojack, remain on the job as the probe continues.
The alleged plot is just the latest incident in the highly scrutinized pregnancy. In May, Parker said that she worries about the health of the surrogate because of the intense media attention now focused on her. Parker has also said that Broderick is furious about the situation.
“Matthew and Sarah Jessica have complete faith in the legal system,” Broderick’s publicist told PEOPLE. “But because it’s a criminal investigation, we will not be making any more comment. What I can say is the entire family looks forward to the healthy delivery of their daughters later on this summer.”
