She’s danced to Beyoncé, battled a minibar and tried to say ‘no’ to fries. And now Marissa Jaret Winokur is getting 11-month-old son Zev into the act of helping her lose weight.
The Dance Your Ass Off host, 36, recently loaded up her little guy into a wagon along with a pal’s son to lug them around the neighborhood – her version of a fun Biggest Loser challenge.
Here, in her weekly PEOPLE.com weight loss-blog, she shares her triumphs and her trip-ups on her quest to shedding pounds.
It’s week four of my PEOPLE.com weight-loss blog and I can finally think about something other than the foods I am missing, or the temptations that haunt me all day long or the bags of candy that I bought at Costco for Zev’s birthday party next week. The bags that sit in arm’s reach as I type. Okay, back to NOT thinking about the temptations and back to telling you about week four!
I felt like supermom! I would work out in the morning while Zev napped and then work out again when he went to sleep! I admit I was a little crazy on the treadmill! Up until last week, it literally had huge Tupperware bins full of winter sweaters and coats I keep meaning to put into storage!
Thankfully, I have a TV in the room with TiVo so I wasn’t bored. I first watched Dance Your Ass Off (yes, a shameless plug!) and I ran as fast as I could while they danced. I used to do this with Dancing with the Stars and The Biggest Loser. It works great – the music takes my mind off of how boring the treadmill can be! I also worked out to The Bachelorette but got too mad at Wes and had to stop to watch him get the boot already! But I digress.
I ran my fastest mile – I was so proud of myself! I don’t know what is considered fast but I was running at 6.0 and 7.0 and finished a mile in just under 10 min. (9 min. and 50 sec.) and that seemed really fast to me!
I also found a great way to count calories! I just Googled “calorie count” and lo and behold there are many free places that will help you keep a record of your food intake and count your calories for you. I found the one at caloriecount.about.com to be amazing! You find your food and serving and type it in and at the end of the day you get a grade!!!!
I had an amazing weekend: Zev actually went into the ocean for the first time at a friend’s birthday party and I did not have cake. Both were milestones!!!! Okay, I had a bite of cake – but one bite of yummy red velvet cake won’t make a difference, and it was worth it!
My biggest challenge this week: going to many parties and staying on track with my calories. Sometimes I failed, but the people who say they don’t cheat are lying!
I am most proud of: putting myself first but making it work around Zev. Okay, so putting myself second but not forgetting that I matter ;)
