As Kings of Leon drummer Nathan Followill watched the Grammy nominations being announced Wednesday night, he was hoping for a nod in his band’s direction.
“Taylor Swift, please let us win one,” he wrote on Twitter during the concert. And while the teen pop star pulled in a whopping eight nominations, Followill’s group got their share of Grammy love as well – a total of four nods for the hit “Use Somebody.”
“That’s pretty crazy for one song,” he told reporters Wednesday. “That’s what makes it even more special because we didn’t think that song would be as big as it’s gotten.”
Last year, the band (made up of Followill’s brothers Caleb and Jared and cousin Matthew) won a Grammy for “Sex on Fire,” and this year, they’re rooting for other musicians from back home to do well on music’s big night.
“We’re Nashville boys so we’ll pull for our locals: Taylor Swift, Sugarland, all the country people that live in the same town that we bump into at Whole Foods every day.”
But Followill notes that he may need to cut back on his grocery store visits.
“I got married two weekends ago, so I’m already putting on the extra weight from getting married,” he says. “I’m just gonna ride it on through to Thanksgiving and Christmas and then just blame it all on the holidays.”
