The Barefoot Bandit is on his way back to the United States.
Colton Harris-Moore pleaded guilty Tuesday in the Bahamas to illegally entering the country and will soon be deported to face prosecution for his alleged two-year crime spree, the Associated Press reports.
The teenager, who was arrested Sunday after a high-speed boat chase on the island, has been on the run since 2008. Authorities allege he was involved in about 70 property crimes, stealing cars, boats and planes – and often without shoes.
Bahamian police had been looking for the 19-year-old since he allegedly crashed a plane onto Great Abaco Island last week. The charge carries a $300 fine, which his lawyer said would be paid by the U.S. Embassy, or three months in jail, followed by deportation.
Wearing white high-top sneakers at his court appearance, the shackled 19-year-old smiled when the judge read the sentence. Police earlier had said he would face additional charges, including illegal weapons possession related to several break-ins and thefts during his hideout in the Bahamas.
