After the startling revelation that husband and wife Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick are distantly related as cousins, comes a brand new detail about what they share – again, courtesy of the show on genealogy, PBS’s Finding Your Roots.
According to a network statement about this Sunday’s episode tracing the actors’ roots, “Bacon’s Quaker ancestors repudiated slavery long before the rest of the country, in 1780.”
And guess what? The Sedgwicks weren’t long to follow in the crusade.
“Sedgwick’s ancestor Theodore Sedgwick argued the freedom case of Elizabeth Freeman, also known as “Mumbet,” in 1781 – which helped bring an end to slavery in Massachusetts,” according to the show.
The series, hosted by Harvard scholar Henry Louis Gates, Jr., airs Sunday on PBS at 8 p.m.
