Warren Buffett revealed Tuesday he has been diagnosed with stage 1 prostate cancer.
The financier, who turns 82 in August, wrote a letter to shareholders disclosing that his diagnosis came on April 11 after he underwent several tests including a CAT scan, bone scan and MRI. There is no indication of cancer anywhere else in his body.
“The good news is that I’ve been told by my doctors that my condition is not remotely life-threatening or even debilitating in any meaningful way,” he wrote. “I feel great – as if I were in my normal excellent health – and my energy level is 100 percent.”
He added: “I discovered the cancer because my PSA level (an indicator my doctors had regularly checked for many years) recently jumped beyond its normal elevation and a biopsy seemed warranted.”
Buffett has chosen radiation treatment – daily sessions over two months, which will begin mid-July.
A spokeswoman for Buffett has not commented.
