When Donald Driver walked away with the coveted mirror-ball trophy on Tuesday night’s Dancing with the Stars finale, it wasn’t the first time he’d won a big competition. But he says it felt just as good.
“I think it’s the same,” the football pro told PEOPLE backstage after DWTS, comparing his most recent feat to when his Green Bay Packers team won the Super Bowl in 2011.
“You have great moments [throughout both experiences].”
There’s only one difference, says Driver, 37: “It took me 13 years to win a Super Bowl. But it only took me one season to win a mirror ball. I’ve been watching the show for a long time and now I know what J.R. felt last year. That is truly something special. I feel the same way. Right now I’m on cloud nine.”
Now that what’s been called the most competitive Dancing season is over, Driver is back to focusing on his real No. 1 love.
“I’ve been thinking about how I’m just going to thank [my wife] and my kids,” he says about the ongoing support he received from his family over the course of the grueling season he shared with partner Peta Murgatroyd. “[My wife] says she wants to go take a trip. So we’re going to take a Disney cruise as a family.”
“We’re going to spend as much time together [as we can],” he says. “That’s what you have to do, because my family has been behind me the whole time.”
Speaking of family, his Father’s Day plans are going to be the same as they are every year: “Breakfast in bed.”
