“I was feeling a little more comfortable [this week],” Johnson, 36, told PEOPLE backstage following the show, just one week after wrongly convincing herself and Fatone they were going home for sure.
“If we had a bad dance, I would understand,” Johnson told reporters of her elimination. “But I feel like we did a good dance [this week] … Everyone seemed to like that dance. The judges even said it was the most entertaining.”
As for the former ‘NSYNC singer, 35, he continues to uphold his positive attitude.
“We did the best of our abilities,” he says. “We’re not disappointed in what we did. We’re disappointed we had so much more to do. It is what it is. As long as I didn’t go first, I am happy, trust me.”
Now that they’re out of the running for that coveted mirror-ball trophy, Fatone says, “Drew [Lachey]’s my boy, but believe it or not, I’m a little biased. My season, Apolo won. He’s the only one representing my season. Hopefully he’ll be in the top three.”
