Lindsey Vonn suffered a serious crash on opening day of Alpine World Championships in Austria on Tuesday, her spokesperson confirms to PEOPLE.
The Vancouver gold medalist’s rep, who still did not know the extent of Vonn’s injuries, said in a statement, “Lindsey was involved in a crash in today’s World Championship Super G race in Schladming, Austria. She is currently being evaluated and we will provide an update when it becomes available.”
Shortly after the incident, the Alpine Press Tweeted, “Doctor on hill with @linseyvonn suspects tibial plateau fracture. We’ll await official diagnosis following X-rays and MRI.”
A tibial plateau fracture is a break in the shinbone near the knee and affects stability and motion.
According to NBC News, Vonn, 28, lost her ski after a tough landing and slid off course into a gate before she came to a stop. See video of her crash below.
