It’s rare that someone ever makes a half-court shot, but fate was happily on the side of an Oklahoma coach this week.
Between the third and fourth quarters of Tuesday’s Thunder vs. Lakers NBA game at Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, Heath Kufahl, the volleyball and boys basketball coach at Christian Heritage Academy in Del City, Okla., was plucked from the stands and did the near-impossible (see video) – and won $20,000 for his effort, reports NewsOK.com.
His winnings, it was reported, will go toward his wife’s mounting medical bills. Last October, Jenni Kufahl was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer. The couple have seven children.
Kufahl’s accomplishment is the fourth successful fan half-court shot in the Thunder’s history, and he is the first quarter-time participant to pull it off in two years.
Furthermore, the Lakers could have used Kufahl. Thunder beat them, 122-105.
