Three’s a crowd?
Hardly for one competitor, who snagged the season’s first perfect 30-point score on Dancing with the Stars on Monday.
The trio of 10s came appropriately enough on threesome night, when the stars each teamed up with two pros for the second round of dances.
The trio dances added complexity and sass – and at one point had one judge melting down in an angry clash with his colleagues.
It was teen TV star Zendaya’s night, as she sparkled in a sprightly salsa with regular partner Val Chmerkovskiy joined by Gleb Savchenko that had judges showering them the top score possible.
“It was a star turn – sizzling and dazzling and amazing,” said judge Bruno Tonioli.
Following an impressive 28-point foxtrot, she finished atop the leader board with 58.
For a few moments it looked like Kellie Pickler’s brooding paso doble with Derek Hough and Tristan MacManus would match Zendaya’s strong effort.
Carrie Ann Inaba and Tonioli lavished 10s, but Len Goodman heaped only scorn – and a 7 – as he argued with the others in a finger-pointing display. Normally the most reserved of the judges, Goodman at one point seemed to make a crude reference to part of Tonioli’s anatomy.
When it was over, Tom Bergeron quipped, “Someone hose them down.”
Pickler finished the night in the middle of the pack with 55.
