It’s a day to celebrate freedom and, for these three famous couples, the day they said “I do.”
Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne tied the knot on Independence Day in Aloha style in 1982. Brits David Beckham and Victoria Beckham didn’t share their big day with the American celebration when they said their vows on the grounds of Ireland’s Luttrellstown Castle in 1999. And in 2002, Julia Roberts wed Danny Moder in a top-secret ceremony.

The couple first made it official on a Maui beach, and in 2003, they renewed their vows after two decades of marriage. “I’m privileged to be your wife,” Sharon said. “And thank you for my babies.”

True to form, the former Posh Spice went all out for her nuptials with soccer star Beckham in an off-the-shoulder Vera Wang gown with a 20-foot train, and she topped off the look with an 18-carat golden crown by Slim Barrett – also Princess Diana’s jeweler.

It was under the guise of an Independence Day party that guests gathered at Roberts’s 82-acre ranch in Taos, N. Mex, only to be surprised by a low-key wedding with Roberts barefoot in a pale pink cotton halter dress. “She found the right person,” a guest told PEOPLE. “There wasn’t a shred of doubt about that on the property.”
Happy July 4 anniversaries to all!
