Located in Brentwood, Calif., the eco-friendly home graces the cover of the October issue of Architectural Digest. And while the photos are sure to elicit envy, the couple describes their abode as comfortable.
“I like simplicity and coziness,” the supermodel, 33, says. “I want to live in a place that feels like a real home, where you can put your feet up on the couch and just relax.”
With three children at home – the couple are parents to Vivian, 8 months, and Benjamin, 3½, as well as Jack, 6, Brady’s son with Bridget Moynahan – architect Richard Landry and interior designer Joan Behnke were aware of the pair’s needs.
“They understood that we wanted a comfortable house, not a style statement,” the New England Patriots quarterback says. Equally as important to Bündchen, a global ambassador for the United Nations Environment Programme, and Brady was the conservation of natural resources. To wit, the couple’s new home features solar panels, composting, a gray-water irrigation system which recycles waste water and more. “From the beginning we asked everyone involved in the design and construction, ‘How can we make it as sustainable as possible?’ ” adds Bündchen.
