As Zack Attack sang on Saved by the Bell, Elizabeth Berkley and her former costars are indeed “friends forever.”
“It’s amazing,” Berkley, 41, told PEOPLE backstage Monday at Dancing with the Stars. “I don’t know if you have people from high school who you’re still close with, [but] even if we don’t see each other for a long time, it’s a connection that we’ll have forever.”
“Luckily we do check in, and we always have each other’s backs,” she adds. “It’s a really special thing.”
In fact, Berkley, who played Jessie Spano on the hit comedy, says it’s only a matter of time before fans see her former costars in the audience.
“Mark-Paul [Gosselaar] just had a baby, which is the only reason he hasn’t been here,” she said. “Mario [Lopez] has been traveling. Tiffani [Theissen] – she just finished working.”
When Berkley’s partner, Val Chmerkovskiy, jokingly said Berkley and Thiessen are no longer friends because Thiessen hasn’t visited, the actress quickly replied, “No, she’s going to come. She’s a very dear friend. We’re just trying to figure out [the time].”
The whole Saved by the Bell cast has “been Tweeting every week in support, and it means so much to me,” Berkley added. “And Mario’s had us on [Extra].”
One cast member whom viewers shouldn’t expect to see at DWTS is Lark Voorhies, who made headlines a year ago for her battle with bipolar disorder.
“I have not seen her since we did the cover of PEOPLE magazine,” Berkley said. “We did a reunion thing, but I haven’t seen her since then. I wish her well. I’ve always loved her.”
Gushing about a different costar, Berkley said of Gosselaar: “He’s an amazing father, and he already has two beautiful children. I wish him and the baby nothing but health and happiness and blessings, blessings, blessings. He’s an incredible dad, and his wife is a beautiful human being.”
