The arrival of ‘s first born, Apple Blythe Alison Martin, opened the minds of moms-to-be everywhere. Food became acceptable fare when searching for the perfect baby name.
Apple waddled into the world in 2004, but the trend of edible titles is still thriving among moms. To help out today’s current crop of pregnant celebrities, we picked out the hippest food names for their kin. From Drew Barrymore to Kerry Washington, these future moms are going to have deliciously adorable babies.
: Baby Caper
Barrymore already has an Olive, why not expand her foodie family? The actress gushed that part of her decision to have a second child was to ensure her 13-month-old daughter Olive had a permanent playmate. Caper, an edible bud that looks like a tiny olive, is a great way to form a bond between the siblings before baby number two even enters the world.
: Baby Quinoa
The No Doubt singer is all about versatility. From her L.A.M.B. clothing line to her hair color, Stefani is ready to make changes to stay fresh, much like quinoa. This grain-like crop continues to grow in popularity thanks to its ability to add texture to any meal, lamb included. The rumored future member of the Stefani/Rossdale brood will be joining a family that is always on the cutting edge of what’s trending – even Kingston, 7, and Zuma, 5, are cooler than us – so having a name like Quinoa will prove this kid is ready to face an ever-changing world.
: Baby Zucchini
Olivia Wilde and Jason Sudeikis are a couple that comes equipped with a powerful funny bone, so the playful sound of Zucchini would be a fun fit for their first child. And you can always call the kid Zuke for short, how cute is that?
: Baby Nectarine
We all let out a satisfied sigh when Winslet said she would be skipping over the chance to take the last name of her new hubby, Ned Rocknroll, but who knows what they will name their newborn. The bright, cheery sound of Nectarine would add a spritz of silly sweetness to this family. The name is also an adorable relative to one of film fans’ favorite Winslet characters, Clementine, from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
Kerry Washington: Baby Kimchi
This pickled cabbage delight is having a big year on dinner plates, thanks to its strong, spicy flavor. Sounds like someone we know! Kerry Washington is killing it in 2013 with her show Scandal, spot-on fashion sense, and, of course, her first baby on the way. Just like Kimchi, Washington has the perfect mix of flair and bite, making the Korean dish a creative name for her mini-me.
Rachel Zoe: Baby Plantain
Known for her signature phrase “That’s bananas!,” Plantain is a less kooky version of Zoe’s favorite exclamatory food. Two favorite things in one precious package. Hopefully a second child means that we will be seeing this new bundle of joy and Zoe’s 2-year-old Skyler in some too-cute matching ensembles.
Jennifer Love Hewitt: Baby Brisket
Texas-born Jennifer Love Hewitt must know a thing about BBQ, and a nice slice of brisket is one of the best treasures to come off the grill. Hewitt’s first bun in the oven is bound to be her biggest joy in her life, so she should name the new babe accordingly. Bonus points: Brisket is a favorite with UK natives, such as Hewitt’s fiancé Ross McCall.
: Baby Kombucha
As an Englishwoman, Emily Blunt is wise enough not to name her baby-to-be George. Luckily, there are plenty of other titles Blunt can use that are inspired by her homeland. Tea is beloved by almost every Brit, but English Breakfast and Earl Grey don’t really roll off the tongue. Kombucha may be the better way to go. This trendy fermented tea sticks with tradition but is less stale than other tea types. Plus, paired with the last name of Blunt’s hubby, , Kombucha sounds like a magic spell.
