With Dancing with the Stars contestants in the final stretch of season 17, Monday night saw another couple sent home.
Just before a newly crowned champion will be named on Tuesday, Jack Osbourne, Bill Engvall, Amber Riley and Corbin Bleu battled it out for a shot at winning the coveted mirror ball trophy.
At the end of Monday’s episode, Engvall and partner Emma Slater ended up with the lowest score – and were sent packing.
“It just goes to prove to me there is a God, because I don’t think I could make one more dance,” Engvall told the crowd just after learning his fate. “[Emma] is like my second daughter now. We just had a blast It’d be totally remiss if I didn’t thank [my wife] Gail.”
Other highlights from the night included:
Engvall and Slater kicked off the evening with a 24-point Viennese waltz, which was a repeat dance on which they were expected to improve. The judges commended their efforts but didn’t see much of a difference, giving the fan-favorite pair 24 points out of 30.
They scored one point higher – and got their duo’s first nine of the season – when it was time for their freestyle, a lively Raiders of the Lost Ark-themed routine that judge Bruno Tonioli called “insanely good fun.”
Bleu and partner Karina Smirnoff also failed to meet the judges’ standard of improvement with their repeat dance, a quickstep. Although they still scored three nines, Carrie Ann Inaba said she was “a little disappointed” by the pair’s efforts.
They majorly stepped it up with their perfect-scoring freestyle, though. Dancing to Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal,” the moonwalk-filled number got a standing ovation by head judge Len Goodman, with Tonioli telling the couple, “You killed it!”
