Jeffrey Hubbard was found guilty on all counts by a Gainesville, Ga., court, including homicide by vessel, serious injury by vessel and other misdemeanor boating charges, including reckless operation of a vessel, unlawful operation of a personal watercraft and a boat-traffic violation for operating at more than idle speed within 100 feet of a person in the water, the Gainesville Times reports
The boy and a friend – a 15-year-old girl who suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries – had been floating on inner tubes in Lake Lanier northeast of Atlanta, when Hubbard struck them with his jet ski.
Hubbard’s attorneys argued that the incident was a tragic accident and not due to recklessness, the Times reported in a separate story. His sentencing will be March 5.
