Late Monday afternoon, at the peak of rush hour, a woman gave birth in the middle of a crosswalk on New York City’s Upper East Side.
The anonymous new mother exited her apartment building on the corner of Third Avenue and 68th Street with the help of her doorman, according to Fox 5. In labor and in need of a hospital, she tried to catch a taxi.
After several minutes of searching, the woman dropped to the ground and began to give birth. Passersby immediately rushed over to assist the woman until medics arrived. Others stopped to take pictures to share on social networks.

Even with the unorthodox setting and big crowd, the mid-street birth was a success. The baby girl was born healthy and surrounded by smiling faces. Strangers offered their scarves to protect the child from the cold, while others cheered for the new mom.
Shortly after the birth, the woman and her infant were loaded into an ambulance and taken to Lenox Hill hospital. Both are said to be doing well.
