Since completing rehab nearly one year ago, Zac Efron has made some major changes.

No longer a fixture at Hollywood house parties, the actor now spends his time reading scripts, working out, going to 12-step meetings and honing a new support system, sources tell PEOPLE in this week’s issue.

“He cut most everyone out of his life who were part of the party scene,” says a source in his circle.

Attending the SXSW festival last weekend, where he promoted his new comedy, Neighbors, at a Facebook live event, Efron, 26, said he felt blessed.

Still, the transition has not been without challenges. The former High School Musical star “has temptations,” says an industry source who has spent time with Efron since rehab.

But the actor, who proudly sported a six-month sobriety chip at a Lakers game in December, “is totally committed to being sober now,” says another source.
