Donald Trump, step aside: Tech billionaire and Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban is using his Web site to offer a sneak peek of ABC’s The Benefactor, his upcoming fall reality show in which he will give one lucky contestant $1 million.
Cuban’s site includes a 94-second video preview, which ABC has scheduled to run for at least eight episodes before Monday Night Football, the Associated Press reports.
In a message on the Blogmaverick.com Web site, Cuban writes there is nothing more fun than handing someone a check for $1 million “and watching that person fall over on the floor and not be able to stand up. … On the flipside, I haven’t had many jobs tougher than eliminating people who are closer than they will ever be to that much money.”
The contestants, selected in April from hundreds of applicants who tried out in five cities, engage in cutthroat games as they share living space in a $5 million Dallas mansion.
“These people are like barracudas,” says a male contestant, while a female competitor reveals: “I don’t get along with the women, period. I think they’re catty. I think a lot of this has been proven in this house.”
At the end of the promo, Cuban takes a gentle poke at Trump’s The Apprentice, telling a trio of puzzled grade-schoolers: “I’m going to come back next week and choose one of you to run one of my companies. Okay?”
Trump and Cuban were reportedly at odds when the New York real-estate developer accused the team owner of basing The Benefactor too closely on The Apprentice. Cuban then blasted Trump on his Web site.
Cuban also offered a job to Apprentice runner-up Kwame Jackson, who did not bite.
