An unnamed bidder at Thursday night’s amFAR Cinema Against AIDS Charity auction paid $1.5 million for a trip into outer space with Leonardo DiCaprio during the group’s 20th anniversary gala at the Hotel du Cap-Eden Roc.

A few minutes later, after a lot of encouragement from guest emcee Sharon Stone, another couple paid $2.3 for two seats on the same Virgin Galactic voyage. All told, the evening brought in $25 million for the cause, up from $11 million last year.

Duran Duran Rocker Talks About Being in Di's Favorite Band

Sunday’s Concert for Diana will feature one of the late princess’s favorite bands: Duran Duran. So what was it like having the world’s most famous royal as a fan?

“It was mutual,” keyboard player Nick Rhodes, 45, tells PEOPLE. “She was our favorite princess. We had a history together.”

Rhodes recalls that when he and his bandmates first met Diana at a charity event, she was “very shy. I remember thinking how fragile she was.”

In the fall of 2002, while watching Aaron Buerge on the first season of The Bachelor with pal Michelle Kaminski, Schefft said, “God help me if I need to go on a dating show to meet a guy.” Though she watched avidly, “I thought to myself, ‘Who are these girls?’ and ‘Why would they do this?’ ” she tells us. But after Kaminski convinced her to apply and producers contacted her, Schefft was on her way.
