It's a Boy! National Zoo Says Surviving Newborn Panda Cub Is Male

It's another boy for Mei Xiang and Tian Tian!

The Smithsonian's National Zoo announced on Twitter Friday that the surviving newborn giant panda cub born to Mei Xiang on Saturday is male and was sired by Tian Tian. This is the second male panda the animals have together.

The smaller of the twin cubs, who died on Wednesday, was also male, the zoo said.
