NYPD Officer Accused of Raping 15-Year-Old Girl He Met Online Commits Suicide

An NYPD sergeant who was arrested earlier this month on multiple counts of rape and sexual abuse was found dead this week in an apparent suicide, officials said.

Joel Doseau, 43, faced more than 40 charges for allegedly molesting a girl he met online eight years ago when she was a minor, NBC News reports. His body was discovered in his parents’ Canarsie, Brooklyn, home Thursday, police said.

Police are searching the Connecticut River for the 7-month-old son of a man who jumped from the Arrigoni Bridge in a suicide attempt on Sunday evening, a Middleton police spokeswoman tells PEOPLE.

Tony Moreno, 22, called a friend threatening to take his own life at just before midnight Sunday. That person then called Middletown police and told them they could hear a baby crying in the background.

Police arrived on the scene after Moreno jumped and were able to rescue him. He was airlifted to Harford Hospital for treatment.
