Jane Richard, who lost her brother Martin in the Boston Marathon bombing, is standing tall on a brand-new prosthetic leg.

As the one-year anniversary of the terrorist attack approaches on April 15, the smiling 8-year-old is a symbol of hope and inspiration in a photo released on Friday by her family.

Martin Richard Laid to Rest in Boston

Martin Richard, the 8-year-boy killed in the Boston Marathon bombings, was laid to rest during a private family service Tuesday morning, his parents announced.

“The outpouring of love and support over the last week has been tremendous,” Denise and Bill Richard said in a statement. “This has been the most difficult week of our lives and we appreciate that our friends and family have given us space to grieve and heal.”
