Tuesday marked the 14th anniversary of singer Aaliyah’s tragic death and judging from the thousands of tributes on social media, she’s still as loved as ever.

One special tribute came from music icon Janet Jackson.

Jackson Tweeted a photo of a note to Aaliyah.

Remembering Aaliyah, 10 Years After Her Death

It was 10 years ago that Aaliyah died in a plane crash in the Bahamas at age 22. On Thursday, the music industry paused to mark the sad anniversary.

Solange Knowles also Tweeted: “I’ve grown up to you, idolized you, watched others try to capture what you had to no avail. You are the one & only Aaliyah! Never forgotten.”

Aaliyah Remembered One Year Later

Fans of the late R&B singer-actress Aaliyah were expected to gather in New York’s Times Square Sunday night to honor the star with a candlelight vigil on the first anniversary of her death, BET.com reports. A moment of silence was due to follow. Event organizers Ron Hall and Quinn Mallory suggested that those who were unable to make it to New York simply stand outside their homes with a candle in tribute. Aaliyah's $68,000 Funeral Tab Unpaid

As the first anniversary of the of death Aaliyah approaches on Aug. 25, a funeral home in the Bahamas that prepared her body and transported it back to the United States for burial is claiming that it has not been paid by Aaliyah’s label for its services, reports TIME magazine.

Pilot on Cocaine in Aaliyah Crash

An autopsy performed on Luis Antonio Morales Blanes, the pilot of the Cessna that crashed in the Bahamas last August carrying R&B singer Aaliyah, found traces of cocaine and alcohol in his body, reports the Associated Press. (Blanes, 30, was sentenced to three years’ probation on charges of crack cocaine possession just 12 days before the accident.) The pilot, Aaliyah, 22, and seven members of her entourage were all killed when the plane crashed shortly after taking off from the airport.
