Sandra Bullock: Gravity Director Used Son Louis to Get Me Through a Tough Shoot

Sandra Bullock praised the imagination, kindness and inspiration of her Gravity director, Alfonso Cuarén, at the 66th Annual Directors Guild of America Awards in Los Angeles on Saturday.

She also teased the heck out of him.

Director: Harry Potter Had to Find Himself

The last time director Alfonso Cuaron got caught up in a whirlwind of attention was in 2001, when Y Tu Mama Tambien sent shockwaves through his native Mexico with its depictions of two teenaged boys discovering sex.

Given its sexually oriented theme, it may have seemed odd that Warner Bros. (which, like PEOPLE, is part of Time Warner) picked the filmmaker to take the reins for its hit adolescent franchise and let him direct Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

'Harry Potter' Has New Movie Father

The successor to “Harry Potter” movie director Chris Columbus has been discovered. He will be Mexican filmmaker Alfonso Cuaron, who is set to take over the viewfinder on “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban,” the third installment in the movie series about the boy wizard, reports Variety. Production is due to begin in England by the spring of 2003, with release set for the summer of 2004.
