Princess Eugenie seems to be loving her new life in New York City.

The princess, who is seventh in line for the British throne and the only royal living stateside, hit up the Dolce & Gabbana 19th Annual Artwalk NY Benefit Coalition for the Homeless on Tuesday.

“She looked totally relaxed mingling in the New York charity and art scene, said an onlooker.

The 52-year-old actress has made her first public appearance since news broke that she and Gere, 64, were calling it quits after 11 years of marriage.

On Tuesday night, Lowell attended the 19th annual Artwalk NY gala in downtown New York City. Dressed in a floral dress, black trench coat and strappy heels, she arrived solo to the charity event, which benefits the Coalition for the Homeless.

Richard Gere and Carey Lowell have split.

A friend of the couple, confirming that Gere and Lowell have separated, tells PEOPLE, “They’ll do everything possible to keep things amicable and put their child first.”

A rep for Gere had no comment.

It’s a boy for the Sexiest Man Alive. Richard Gere, 50, and actress Carey Lowell, 38, welcomed Homer James Jigme Gere in New York on Sunday. Homer is Gere’s first child. Lowell, who appeared in the 007 movie “License to Kill” and on TV’s “Law & Order” for two seasons before exiting the series in 1998, has a 9-year-old daughter, Hannah, from her marriage to actor-filmmaker Griffin Dunne. Gere, who was named PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive last year, has just finished shooting “Dr. T and the Women” in Dallas for director Robert Altman.
