Charles Barkley’s a pro when it comes to meeting his fans.

Courtney Roberts and her friends bumped into the retired basketball player turned sports analyst on Friday at the Village Tavern in Birmingham, Ala.

“He was seated in the bar area and we noticed some fans greeting him and a young man leaving with a signed basketball,” Roberts told PEOPLE. “All of the waitstaff told us how nice he was and how he loved taking photos with fans.”

Charles Barkley Was Legally Drunk at Time of Arrest

Charles Barkley was legally drunk when Gilbert, Ariz., police arrested him for DUI on Dec. 31.

Test results released Friday show that Barkley had a blood-alcohol level of .149, almost twice the legal limit of .08 in that state, the Associated Press reports.

Police say they noticed Barkley, 45, running a stop sign in the Old Town section of Scottsdale at about 1:30 a.m.

Barkley was issued a citation for driving while impaired and released pending the results.

Charles Barkley Arrested for DWI

Charles Barkley was arrested early Wednesday in Arizona on charges of driving while impaired.

Police say they noticed Barkley, 45, running a stop sign in the Old Town section of Scottsdale at about 1:30 a.m. Officers pulled Barkley over, took him to a nearby mobile command post, and administered a blood test after declining to submit to a breath test, according to Gilbert, Ariz., police Lt. Eric Shuhandler.

Barkley was issued a citation for driving while impaired and released pending the results, which normally takes about a week, Shuhandler said.
