Liza's Ex Loses Lawyer in Divorce Case

Make that two divorces in the life of Liza Minnelli’s ex, producer David Gest.

On Monday, Gest’s high-profile lawyer Raoul Felder dumped his client, though the lawyer (recently the subject of a lengthy and colorful New Yorker magazine profile that painted him as dogged and determined) called the parting amicable, according to reports.

Felder said he was calling it quits because he was finding it difficult to reach his client on the phone because of the time difference between Felder’s New York office and Gest’s Hawaiian home, and because Gest was often ill.

INSIDE NEVERLAND: Investigators who combed Michael Jackson’s Neverland Ranch during their Nov. 18 search (which led to his being charged on multiple counts of child molestation) seized computers, legal documents, videotapes, a note and a letter found on the singer’s bedroom nightstand, reported the Associated Press. Though the items are not described in detail in court papers outlining the search, the Los Angeles Times reported that the documents do state that a locksmith was summoned to unlock the master bathroom and that keys were later found in a safe.

Gest Blames Tabloid for Split from Liza

Liza Minnelli’s split from fourth husband David Gest was caused by a tabloid article, not alleged physical abuse, Gest insists in an interview to be broadcast on “Dateline NBC” Friday.

Gest, 50, who has been living in Hawaii since his marriage fell apart, tells “Dateline” host Stone Phillips that Minnelli “beat me and hit me everywhere,” but it was a National Enquirer article portraying his estranged wife as an alcoholic that was the final straw.

Liza-David Divorce Show Gets Going

Soon-to-be-single Liza Minnelli was in Manhattan divorce court Wednesday, while, as her lawyer complained to the divorce judge, husband David Gest was avoiding the pretrial examination by hiding in Hawaii.

But Gest’s attorney, Raoul Felder, said Gest is still in too much pain from the beatings he allegedly suffered at the hands of Minnelli during their 16-month marriage, Reuters reports.

Liza and David Biting Reality Back

A television career has proved a bit too unreal for Liza Minnelli and husband David Gest. The couple have hired attorney Michael Sherman – who most recently gained notoriety representing Kennedy cousin Michael Skakel in the Martha Moxley murder case – to represent them in their battle with VH1 over the cancellation of their planned reality show, the Associated Press reports.
