Julia Roberts Buys Donald Rumsfeld's Land

Just weeks after giving birth to twins, Julia Roberts bought herself a Christmas present: 32 acres of prime real estate in Taos, N.Mex. – from Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld.

Roberts, 37, has been buying up land from neighbors since she took up part-time residence in the state in July 1995. Her latest purchase is adjacent to 80 acres she already owns.

Tom Hanks admitted feeling like “small potatoes” around all the Washington bigshots at Wednesday night’s $1,000-a-plate National D-Day Museum’s Salute to the Citizen Soldier, reports PEOPLE.

Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, 69, went to the movies in Washington this week, PEOPLE reports. The real-life military adviser and his wife, Joyce, attended the D.C. premiere of “Black Hawk Down,” by director Ridley Scott (“Gladiator”), though the screams of the crowd outside the theater Tuesday night were reserved for the fictional war drama’s stars, Josh Hartnett and William Fichtner. The film tells the story of a 1993 U.S. Special Forces mission in Somalia.
