A New Book from Dr. Seuss! He'd Be 'Happy and Proud' to See It in Print, Says His Former Art Director

Dr. Seuss is famous for creating The Cat in the Hat, One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish and countless other kids’ classics, but it turns out he didn’t share all the animals in his whimsical world before he died in 1991.

A previously unpublished Dr. Seuss book called What Pet Should I Get? is set to hit shelves on July 28, more than 20 years after the author’s death.

Ellen DeGeneres is partnering with Netflix for a 13-episode animated series that’s inspired by/based upon/pillaged from Dr. SeussGreen Eggs and Ham.

DeGeneres made the announcement Wednesday on her show: “This show is gonna combine two of my favorite things – Dr. Seuss and binge watching.”

More than 20 years after his death, there is still plenty of news about Dr. Seuss.

Random House Children’s Books said Wednesday it will publish a recently discovered manuscript with illustrations called What Pet Should I Get? on July 28. The publisher plans at least two more books, based on materials found in 2013 in the author’s home in La Jolla, California, by his widow and secretary.

The author, whose real name was Theodor Geisel, died in 1991.

A memorial honoring Dr. Seuss in his hometown of Springfield, Mass., may get a $2 million boost in federal money. Sen. Edward M. Kennedy and Rep. Richard Neal said they will ask Congress for that amount to help pay for the bronze memorial honoring “Cat in the Hat” author Theodor Geisel, who died in 1991. The memorial, which will cost $6 million ($2 million has already been raised), will feature the Cat in the Hat, Horton the Elephant, the Grinch and other characters, along with a likeness of Geisel. The fund drive is headed by former first lady Barbara Bush.
