Gary Condit Testifies in Chandra Levy Murder Trial

Former California Rep. Gary Condit testified Monday he had nothing to do with Chandra Levy’s murder, but refused to address if the two were romantically involved.

Former Congressman Gary Condit has denied having an affair with murdered intern Chandra Levy, contradicting allegations from police and Levy’s family that he did, according to tapes obtained by the Today show.

The revelations come from testimony that was part of an $11 million defamation lawsuit Condit filed against Court TV and Vanity Fair reporter Dominick Dunne.

Asked to describe his relationship with Levy, a 24-year-old intern who disappeared in April 2001, Condit responded, “We were friends,” according to a transcript of the tapes.

Latching on to an advance copy of the September Esquire magazine, The Post excepts part of an interview with Condit, 54, in which he lashes out at Chung, 55 (who is now a regular on CNN, which, like PEOPLE, is part of AOL Time Warner).
