Olympic Diver Greg Louganis: 'I Was Stronger Than I Ever Gave Myself Credit for'

Greg Louganis knows he’s not perfect.

And now, the openly gay Olympic diver is reliving all his “mistakes” in the new HBO documentary Back on Board.

“I kind of squirm in my seat and feel a little awkward and say ‘Oh my God. I made that same mistake again,’ ” Louganis says of watching the final cut of the documentary, which premieres Tuesday. “I’ve been through an amazing but really crazy journey. Mine is a story of perseverance and seeing things change.”

Greg Louganis Marries Johnny Chaillot

Olympic diver Greg Louganis is no stranger to gold medals, but now he is getting used to a wedding band.

Louganis, 53, married paralegal Johnny Chaillot, 52, Saturday evening at Geoffrey’s in Malibu.

“It was amazing because I have so many people from all facets of my life here tonight and they are all here and celebrating it is all wonderful,” Louganis told PEOPLE immediately following the sunset ceremony. “I already feel different. The ceremony was so reflective and representative of who we are.”

Olympic diving champion Greg Louganis is about to take the plunge – the marrying kind, that is. He and his partner, paralegal Johnny Chaillot, will walk down the aisle this fall, the diver tells PEOPLE exclusively.
