Colombian Rocker Juanes Sweeps Latin Grammys

Colombian rock star Juanes was crowned the new king of the Latin Grammys Thursday night, sweeping the five awards for which he was nominated and becoming the new record holder – with 17 to his name overall.

“It really has been an amazing night,” Juanes said when his hit, “La Vida … Es Un Ratico,” was named Record of the Year.

Colombian singing star Juanes and his wife, Karen Martinez, are separating, a source close to the couple confirms to Peopleenespañ exclusively.

The musician (full name: Juan Esteban Aristizabal), 34, and his wife, 27, have been married for three years.

They decided to part after months of trying to resolve their differences, the magazine reports. They will remain friends and are committed to their two daughters together, Paloma, 4, and Luna, 3.

Salsa got even hotter Thursday night, with Colombian heartthrob Juanes, late entertainer Celia Cruz and Latin chart-topper Ricky Martin sharing a three-way split for top honors at the Billboard Latin Music Awards broadcast live by Telemundo from the Miami Arena.

Also sharing the heat of the spotlight: winners Jennifer Lopez, Gloria Estefan and Luis Miguel.

Winners reflected sales and airplay success as measured by Billboard’s weekly charts from Feb. 15, 2003 to Feb. 7, 2004.
