Byfleet Manor is most recognizable as the home of Lady Violet Crawley, who’s played by Emmy-winning actress Dame Maggie Smith on the period drama.

Downton Abbey Producer Discusses Decision to End the Series, What's in Store for Season 6

After confirming on Thursday that Downton Abbey will conclude after its sixth season, executive producer Gareth Neame discussed the decision, admitting, “It’s a very emotional day for all of the people involved in the show.”

“The danger with this sort of thing is to let them go on forever,” Neame told reporters during a conference call.

Maggie Smith May Not Be Leaving Downton Abbey

The Dowager Countess of Grantham may not be leaving us after all.

While actress Maggie Smith, in a recent interview, made cryptic comments about the sixth season of Downton Abbey and appeared to hint at the show’s end, her publicist is pushing back on that statement in what is certainly welcome news for devoted fans of the Masterpiece Theatre hit.

“They say this is the last one, and I can t see how it could go on,” Smith told The Sunday Times with just a hint of her character the Dowager Countess’s sarcastic sense of humor: “I mean, I certainly can’t keep going. To my knowledge, I must be 110 by now!”
