Singer Norah Jones shared her first-ever Oscar experience with PEOPLE, snapping exclusive shots as she prepared to walk the big red carpet.

Jones, 33, decided to make it a Hollywood weekend, staying in the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel right across from the Dolby Theatre, getting ready with pal Sarah Oda.

After conquering the carpet, Jones took the stage to perform the nominated Best Original Song “Everybody Needs a Best Friend” from Ted.

Ravi Shankar, Indian Sitar Star, Dies

Ravi Shankar, the Indian sitarist and composer whose collaborations with Western musicians – both classical and rock – made him a familiar concert name by the late ’60s and earned him the title “godfather of world music,” died Tuesday in a hospital near his home in Southern California, his family said. He was 92.

Shankar’s foundation said in a statement that he had suffered upper respiratory and heart problems and had undergone heart-valve replacement surgery last week, reports the Associated Press.

Norah Jones, Dixie Chicks Pick Shortlist

The Shortlist Music Prize – considered to be a more sophisticated version of the Grammys – has revealed its nominees for its fourth annual awards, which honor an album that failed to capture mainstream attention.

The 20 Shortlist judges – including such artists as Norah Jones and Dixie Chicks, as well as music critics – have come up with a “longlist” of 73 nominees, which is to be whittled down to 10 by late September. The grand prize will be awarded during a concert at the Wiltern in Los Angeles on Nov. 10, according to the Shortlist Organization.

Oprah, Norah Pitch In for the 'Future'

This Sunday in Rome, music giant Quincy Jones will present “We Are the Future,” a free-to-the public charity concert intended to bring attention on the plight of children in such distressed and war-torn areas as Ethiopia, Eritrea, Sierra Leone, Afghanistan, Rwanda and the West Bank.

JAILED: He’s baaaack. Singer Bobby Brown was back in a Georgia jail Saturday after reportedly violating the terms of his probation, the Associated Press reports. Brown, 35, was being held without bond at the DeKalb County Jail following an appearance before a judge on Friday.
