The Texas state legislature named the British-born musician, 64, an honorary Texan Wednesday as a thank-you for donating his expansive collection of Alamo and Texas Revolution-related artifacts to the Alamo last year.

Just one day after Collins’s rep told PEOPLE that the former Genesis frontman has no intention of retiring, the musician himself addressed recent rumors about future of his career, in a message posted on his Web site Tuesday.

Despite a recent interview with FHM in which music legend Phil Collins, 60, said “it feels like a good time to stop for a while,” he is not retiring from music, PEOPLE has confirmed.

“He is not, has no intention of, retiring,” says his U.K rep.

Collins, who last year underwent surgery to treat nerve damage in his left hand, told PEOPLE in November that he was in the middle of taking time off so he could recuperate.

For now, they’ll go on living “Separate Lives.” Singer Phil Collins and his wife of six years, Orianne, have decided to separate, the couple said in a joint statement on Wednesday.

Collins will continue to live in Switzerland to be near to his two young children, Nicholas and Mathew, his publicist Mara Buxbaum said.
