Conrad Bain Dies at 89

Conrad Bain, the easygoing TV star who played the Park Avenue father on the 1978-85 sitcom Diff’rent Strokes, died in his hometown of Livermore, Calif., on Monday. He was 89.

His daughter, Jennifer Bain, confirmed his death to PEOPLE, and said her father died of natural causes.

“He’d been unconscious for a couple of days, but he was comfortable and it was very peaceful,” she said of her dad, who also played the argumentative neighbor on the 1972-78 hit show Maude.

Todd Bridges Splits from Wife of 14 Years

After 14 years of marriage, Diff’rent Strokes alum Todd Bridges and his wife Dori are splitting.

“The Bridges have decided that disunion is in the best interest of their collective futures,” a statement from Bridges says. “Although Todd and Dori are going their separate ways, they are mutually committed to the well-being of their son [Spencir, 13].”

The once troubled teen star, 47, who also appeared on the UPN/CW sitcom Everybody Hates Chris, broke the news on his Twitter account Friday.

On heels of a false Internet report that comedian Sinbad was dead, Todd Bridges of Everybody Hates Chris found himself Tuesday assuring friends and family – including his wife and sister – that he was very much alive.

“There were all these calls about it, and for a half an hour no one could reach me,” Bridges, 41, tells PEOPLE exclusively. “I was in (electronics store) Fry’s shopping and I had my cell phone on silent. I am just glad that my kid never heard it.”
