None of country music’s biggest stars doubt that Luke Bryan will do well as co-host, with Blake Shelton of this Sunday’s Academy of Country Music Awards, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t concerned about him.

“I think Luke is nervous, and he should be,” Miranda Lambert told PEOPLE Friday. “Not because he won’t do great. It’s because my husband [Blake] is a loose cannon and he never goes by prompter and I never know what he’s going to say or do.”

For Shelton, hosting country music’s annual showcase is old hat, having done it twice before. But Bryan is a rookie.

“I just hope Luke can hold his own with my husband,” Lambert said. “If anybody can, it’s Luke.”

Bryan’s buddy, Charles Kelley of Lady Antebellum, echoed Lambert’s thoughts.

“I’m nervous for him. He’s the funniest human being alive, but live TV is a totally different thing,” said Kelley. “I think they’ll be awesome. They’re the two funniest guys in country. I don’t know how it can’t be awesome.”

If all else fails, says Lambert about the two guys who’ll be on stage, “They’re hot. So it’s good eye candy for the rest of us.”

Tune in for the 48th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards, live from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Sunday, April 7, at 8 p.m. on CBS.
